I done this short powerpoint to show an understanding of a specific stereotype in the media and how certain aspects of that stereotype are slowly changing in different countries.
Leon is about a hitman who one day comes across a 12 year old girl who is seeking refuge (Mathilda). Leon gets persuaded into helping the young girl into becoming a hitman, in order to avenge her younger brothers death, as he was the only family member she loved. Mathilda in exchange teaches Leon how to read or write. Leon is a notorious hitman who has committed many murders and his wanted by the authorities ; and is constantly on the run around little italy. As Mathilda becomes more competent in her assanation skills she attempts to murder Norman "Stan" Stansfield, who was the main cause for Mathilda's family deaths ; as he lead the police raid that infiltrated their home. Mathilda follows Norman back to a DEA building, Norman finds out and catches her in the DEA toilets. Leon finds out Mathilda's intentions through a note she left him back at Leon's home, so he goes and rescues her and kills two of Norman's men in the process. As Mathilda heads back home a group of Norman's men taker her hostage and infiltrates Leon's home. Leon attempts to escape but Norman spots him and shoots Leon in the back. As Leon lies on the floor dying Norman jeers at him, leon then gives Norman a "gift from Mathilda" which is an unpinned grenade, there is a massive explosion which kills both Norman and Leon. Mathilda escapes the chaos and the next day she goes to a school in new jersey and gets a place to study.
During our groups work on thriller sub genres and narratives I gave Jake (the editor of the animation), the information about political/action thrillers and enigma codes. He then used this information that I gave and put it into the animation, which was then presented to the class.
The main objective for this task was to get used to final cut pro. We also learnt about match on action, which is a very important element in any movie.
Inception is a thriller film that was produced in 2010 that stars Leonardo Di Caprio as Cobb, and Ellen Page as Ariadne. It offers the audience a complicated and extensive story line that has been known to confuse many people due to the ending. The plot synopsis consists of two extractors and a team of con men goout to capture peoples ideas by going into the subconscious thoughts of his targets, the world Inception is set in consists of corporate spying, making Cobb an important character to portray this message.realistically Cobb is a spy, which makes his job extremely dangerous. The other agent, Arthur is played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, he is Cobb's right hand man, any mission or event that Cobb is sent on Arthur is there to help. Inception is filmed in bright contrast, in numerous cities. In comparison to Se7en, where it is very dull and grainy, inception is the complete oposite. Inception has to be one of the most successful thrillers to ever keep the audience entertained due to its complex storyline, the story is based around five levels of dreaming, 1 reality, 2 Van chase, 3 The hotel, 4 Snow fortress, 5 Limbo. The main objective is to try and con "The Mark of his ideas. At the start of the film Cobb is seen spinning a top constantly, which makes him paranoid as he constantly spins the top to make sure he is in reality and not in another level of dream. At the end of the film Cobb spins the top then walks away from it, which leaves the audience thinking, is Cobb still in a dream or not? In my opinion,he is not as he Cobb is obsessed with seeing is wife and children again, this makes me believe that the only thing that will make him walk away from the sinning top is when his wife and children meet him. This would only be possible if he was in reality as the wife and children do not know about the levels of dreams.

Use the Left and Right buttons on the side of the camera
Click on Function to show exposure and white balance options.
Scroll down to White Balance logo to adjust the white balance.
Scoll down to your chosen white balance option and then hold the Menu button until your chosen option flashes twice, then the setting will be set. there is different options depending on if you are shooting inside or using sunlight as your light source.
Use the top two Zoom buttons to zoom in and out.
then press the Menu button again and then Function to get to the exposure setting.
Use the scrolling buttons to select the Exposure setting.
Press the Manual button to adjust the exposure.
Scroll up and down to select the exposure number you wish to use
Press Focus button located above the scrolling pad to get the focus logo. Then use the left and right button to adjust the focus.
Se7en was very successful in captivating me into the film.I was immersed throughout, as the film created tension and suspense using lighting effects and special techniques with the camera. Some examples of the effects were a high amount of close ups and long shots,this helps establish the setting. Se7en was also portrayed in a very grey,dull and grainy way, which also adds to the mystery. Some objects/people may not be visible due to the video effects.
This stills highlight some of my points on how Se7en is presented.
One of the ways Se7en kept me enthused was the guessing of how the murderer was going to kill his next target, as they are all influenced by the seven deadly sins. The murderer is not exposed until the end of the movie, which leaves the audience guessing who he/she was, it adds to the mystery of the film. At the end of the film the last sin is wrath, the plan from the murderer was to get Detective David Mills to kill him. This is a very good twist to the film, which caught me and possibly the rest of the audience by surprise. The murderer is also part of the sins, he is responsible for envy. This is why he goes round the detectives house and "plays house" with the detectives wife. Having the murderer responsible for a sin also adds to the mystery, as his whole plan is to punish people who breaks the sins. When he breaks the envy sin it foils his plan; which made me think about his other motives towards killing people.
I have taken a photograph of a possible setting for a thriller, which is very close to my home. It shows I know what setting a thriller should have. A thriller film requires the setting to be in a place of safety or comfort to give the illusion that nothing can go wrong. This safety starts to disappear when further into the plot. The setting is also quite dark and gloomy which is also common in thrillers. The colour green is also used alot, green is very prominent in this setting. The trees look very dead and decayed, this could be used to foreshadow a possible ending in a thriller.
I have created a collage of stills from various thriller opening scenes, I done this to show some of the typical scenes in a thriller. My collage also shows some of the mystery and suspense that are involved. An example of this is in the bottom left, where a male is carrying a dead body held in a carpet. The male has some cuts and scratches on his face which may cause the audience to think, what has happend to him and why is he carrying a dead body. The collage shows some typical settings in a thriller such as a city (bottom right) and a living room/house (top left). A living room would be a great setting as it offers the audience an atmosphere of safety and comfort. Throughout the collage the lighting seems very dark and grainy, which could be used to hide certain objects or people. Having darkness also gives the fear of the unknown, which creates more mystery. Having mystery keeps the audience entertained. The props are normally everyday items such as carpets and cds. These items may seem inconspicuous but can be used in a variety of ways to send messages to a victim for example.
This mind map shows all the possible characteristics in a thriller. This is a great way to show/present ideas and thoughts in a graphical way, it may also be easier for the audience to see the ideas more clearly in comparison to a report; which may take more time to gather information depending on the depth. In this mind map I learnt what costumes and characters are present in a thriller, which will help me be able to portray a thriller better.
David Owootomo and Toby Gearing - We have both compiled a list of individual credits of the various crew members and the studio that have been credited in the opening title sequence. Whilst getting all the credits of the various members and studio who have been involved in Alien3, the specific order of names being shown is significant. The studio, then production company mentioned first, then the actors and film name and following this the crew members. It could be interpreted that the studio who comes first in the credits and basically own rights to the film are the ones in control of the opening credits, and the order choice used could relates to the importance of the crew in relevance to the audience. It cannot be said that the title sequence order of the crew members relates to the contribution they had to the film. I say this due to the director being listed last on the credits, who effectively was the main one to make the film but is listed last, and the actors are listed first who may not have contributed as much to the making of the film.
